My husband and I were out running errands in Rocky Mount, Virginia and I needed to stop at this restaurant to pick up something. We decided to take a break from our tasks for a minute and decided to sit and have a soda or water. Oh my gosh, now I can't get my husband to stop talking about it !
I am getting some materials together from local businesses for an upcoming event at the bank and The Bootlegger's Cafe was one of those places. When we stopped in, owner Bryan Hochstein was busy, so we were seated and immediately waited on. We had something to drink as we waited.
The waitress was on her game and seeing we were not looking for a meal, suggested we try their dessert menu. I've had a sore throat and she said "the Peach Cobbler would feel sooooooo good on your throat". OK, you convinced me. My husband saw "Brownie Sundae" and he was hooked.
Bryan came around and we had a nice chat. He was happy to be involved in our project and immediately helped with what I was looking for to highlight his restaurant at the event. He offered additional assistance and information that will be of great benefit in the future.
That's when the waitress returned and my husband's eyes got as big as silver dollars when he saw his treat. I was also quite pleased with the excellent flavor of my dessert. It did feel good and soothing to my throat. But my husband took a bite and Mmmmmmmmmm, he was impressed.
The Bootlegger's Cafe is across the street from The Harvester Performance Center where name musical acts come to perform. Tonight was a concert by "Asleep At The Wheel" and though we arrived early, the restaurant quickly filled up with guests as show time got closer. This place is unique.
The building is the old Coca-Cola Bottling plant from the early 1900's and has been beautifully renovated. Sitting at the corner of Franklin Street and Floyd Street right downtown, it is a quaint spot to just drop in and eat.
OK; back to my husband and his "Brownie Sundae". After a few bites, he started and couldn't stop himself from describing how good it was. "Fabulous", "Unbelievable", "Amazing", "Delicious","Perfect" and on and on.
He doesn't get this excited about anything, especially food. I had to try a bite. At first, he didn't want to share but finally decided to be nice and oh my goodness; I agree with him and understand why he liked it so. It was a BIG brownie with delicious vanilla ice cream and cute sprinkles on top.
Folks, we didn't stop here because we were going to have a dessert. It was the environment, the staff and the way it made us feel to be in this historical place that drew us in. Once in and experiencing it; we will definitely be returning soon and probably bringing guests with us.
We were so impressed with Bryan, his staff and the food that we offered to help him get known because after being in business for only a year, there are still people that don't know about it. They also have a bar and two floors for dining so there's plenty of room for YOU to drop in too.
Whether you're 18 or 80, this would be a great spot on "date night". My husband, as he cleaned his plate, said this "Brownie Sundae" is big enough it would be great for a couple to share but better ask for two spoons. The music in the restaurant is specially selected by Bryan and was excellent.
So if you're looking for a unique venue for a wonderful dinner or you're out on a date and want to top it off with an awesome dessert treat, . . . . .
