Do we really need a home phone anymore?

I think it's pretty normal for most of us these days to have a cell phone and even multiple lines. I have five, and if you have kids or a business your probably do too! It gets pretty expensive so I would love to find a way to eliminate my land line.

In the past couple of years I have gotten to where I don't use my home phone at all. I keep it hooked up for DSL and Fax. I pay about 95.00 a month for that. It seems like a waste to keep it on for just these purposes. I know I could get cable for my internet service but is there anyway to fax besides a phone line?

If anyone knows any information about this that I don't  I would appreciate a post.

look into online fax servers you can always receive faxs on line convert to a tif or pdf to print and then scane and email back via win-fax or like programs

There are many internet programs that are around $30/month where you can send out and receive faxes using the internet....pretty sure it's called eFax.  Hope this helps!

Jennifer - I would get rid of my land line at home if I had a "GOOD" cell signal.  If I am in my home, I have no cell signal....yet if I stand out in my driveway I do have "2 bars".... so, I got no cell satisfaction in my own home  LOL!

I use maximail for my e-fax. We dropped our home line 2 years ago to save money.

Jennifer, if you lived in Club West, you'd be unable to use the cell phone because of no signal.  I always get frustrated out there because I have almost no service.  Perhaps it has changed but don't ever call Shelly when she'd home.  She can't be reached.  Efax seems to be the way to go.

I live in Agawam, MA I have a voice mail that includes  fax. It's about $23.00 a month. You may have one in your area.

E-fax.com has got to be the best e-faxing solution on the market.  Simple and very easy to use.  A few years back, I switched our home at the time over to VoIP and cut down tremendously on that phone bill ($85 to $29).  At the time, the voice quality wasn't that good but with speeds where they are, you shouldn't have an issue. 

Godaddy.com also offers an efax service but you also may talk with your office about hosting an e-fax service.

Wow thanks to everyone! this is fabulous, I've never heard of E Fax! I will check it out ASAP. Luckily I get great reception from home on my cell so i think its bye bye home line!

I know what you are talking about!  We rarely use our home phone, but still need it.  When I retire, it will retire too!!

I'm with you.  I'd love to get rid of my land line, too.  Alas!  As far as I know, we still have to have it for the fax and DSL.
