Georgia Tech High Performance Computing Center Design

Georgia Tech has unveiled the latest design for the High Tech Performance Computing Center that will be constructed at 4th and West Peachtree Streets, overlooking Technology Square. The rendering speaks for itself....

The design, by renowned Atlanta architect John Portman Associates (think Hyatt, Apparel Mart) will be a massive, 21-story, 750,000 sq. ft tower and data center. The combined buildings will form an arched plaza over storefronts and restaurants.

The brick building in the front is a remaining portion of the historic Crum Forster building that preservations fought long and hard to preserve and not have torn down. (Funny side note....that very building was designed by the architect that later started the Architecture program at GATech...but they did not want to save the building!!!)(Here is a link to a post I wrote about this way back in 2008!!) Site plans reference a restaurant in this building.

The project includes a spiral staircase through the heart of the tower, which will further encourage collaboration between people located on different floors in the building. Sounds pretty awesome!

The entire Tech Square area is one of the nation's fastest growing innovation districts --- companies such as AT&T Mobility, Home Depot and Panasonic have opened research and development centers in Tech's Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC).

This is yet another exciting development for this corner of Midtown Atlanta. Just the other day, we posted about The Standard, a new student apartment building that will be built just across the street from the Computing Center.

Plans are still developing, but the new plaza would be a great gathering spot for students and public with outdoor seating and restaurants. The Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center is directly across the street.

As the building develops, individuals looking for living opportunities will find new apartment buildings with leasing options. For those looking for longer-term living (like purchasing) the closest condominium building will be MidCity Lofts, followed by Plaza Midtown and Cornerstone Village. Just North of the site, at 9th and Williams Street the new Modera Midtown apartment building is Under Construction.

We'll be keeping an eye on the groundbreaking and construction of this Midtown and GATech addition in the weeks, months, and probably a couple years!

If you are thinking this will be your place of employment, it just might be a great time to buy and get those roots firmly planted! Just give me a call and we can talk about the options!
