Picture or No Picture?

I always amazed at how many attractive people sell real estate in this country.  Rarely have I seen a picture that I thought the person perhaps should get a makeover and then retake their photo.  Those photos seem few and far between.  So how many of you struggled with trying to decide which picture to use?  Do you feel that you should only use professional done photos or will any photo work?  Do you try to capture whom you are in the photo or just hope that big smile will be enough?

What about those of us that only have a face for radio or a mug only our mothers could love?  Should we all use a photo and is that a deciding factor for future clients?  Does that photo bring a personal touch?  Weigh in beautiful people!  Lets here how you came to that decision and whether you think the photo is important or not!

I have two sets of biz cards. One with a photo, one without. However, in general I think it's better to have a photo on biz cards and other marketing pieces. And it's important to have a professional photo. In my opinion, I wouldn't worry too much about being "judged" there's only a small portion of the public that judge harshly based on appearance and they are equal opportunity critics - and often most critical of the most attractive. In other words - they judge no matter who's in the picture.

Dan thank you for the comment.  I was courious because I do see almost all Agents have a picture but there are a handful that I run across that do not.

Photos are good for both face and name recognition.

I tried experimenting with cards that had no photo.  I didn't like passing them out - people expect us to use photos.  Do I "fix" them up a bit?  Yes, just a bit, but I still want to look like a current version of me!

I would agree with that.  We sold our house 20 years ago and the woman looked different than her picture.  We thought her mom showed up but the fact was she had not hanged he picture in almost 20 years.

As you can see it's very casual.  I update annually based on my current look.  I use it on my site, here, facebook but not on my signs and I feel that signs should be about the property, not the agent.  I do however believe that readers need a current photo of you to connect with on blogs/your site.

Very few professions use a photo on their cards and other advertising, I just use my logo.
