“SPRING FEVER” - DO YOU HAVE IT?

We know we do! It’s almost here and we can’t wait! This Sunday, March 20th, heralds in the first day of Spring!  We can already see the greem leaves of trees budding and some of the fruit trees are in full blossom, dotting the landscape with bright white and pink spots of color. A drive along the highway seems fresh and new and the desolation of winter far behind us.

Mark Twain said it best,  “It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want — oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”

Why is spring such an anticipated season and why do most of us enjoy it so much? We took time to jot down a few things we love and look forward to each year as this wonderful season graces us with its presence. 

BRIGHT COLORS - After the drab shades of brown, more brown and the white of snow, to see any color is a real boost to the spirit. Forsythia burst with bright yellow, as do the daffodils and tulips. The hardy pansy flourishes in a riot of color wherever it’s been planted and the flowering trees stand out amongst the bare ones in bright pockets of white, pink and purples.  In Ralph Waldow Emerson’s words, "The earth laughs in flowers." 

CLEAN FRESH AIR -  We think Gustav Mahler had it right when he said, “Spring won't let me stay in this house any longer! I must get out and breathe the air deeply again!” Unless you are a “snow bunny” most of the winter has been spent indoors. We can’t wait to get outside, take a walk in the park, work in our gardens and just breathe again!

WARM SUNSHINE - Spring calls us to come out and play in the sunshine. Hans Christian Anderson said, “Just living is not enough... one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.” We couldn’t agree more! We are sure every one of us, at some point in spring, has lifted our face to the sun and drunk in its warmth and brightness. It invigorates and renews us, promising a new year of growth and beauty.

Being able to enjoy the outdoor fresh air, warm sun and bright colors lifts the spirit in ways nothing else seems able to do. There is no other time we can think of that makes us brighten up and look forward to the next day.

“Spring is nature's way of saying, 'Let's party!'
