Can You Help Raise $1300 to send 106 Sixth Graders to Science Camp?
by REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
Who here remembers attending Sixth Grade Science Camp?
Science Camp was a big adventure-staying overnight in the woods for a whole week!
I remember Mrs. Mann's class all lined up in front of Kirk Elementary School in San Jose waiting for the bus. I learned about how pioneers rolled up Bay and Eucalyptus leaves to put inside their noses when they were stuffed up; that you could lick the back of a banana slug to "de-sensitize" your taste buds if you needed to eat something otherwise unpalatable; and that scorpions can climb onto the top shelf in your closet to jump out and surprise you.
You may not realize it but many families in "wealthy" Silicon Valley cannot afford to send their children for this unique experience and rite of passage.
My San Jose State University colleague, long-time teacher Ricky Perez at Seven Trees Elementary School in San Jose, Calif. is coordinating this fundraiser for their 103 sixth grade students.
They raised $22K on their own. So far $4200 of the last $5500 needed has been raised on Facebook.
Please prayerfully consider donating an amount-no matter how small. Be part of the miracle in a young student's life. Thank you & God bless you!
