You never know what works until you try things. So was I exploring Yelp to provide restaurant and business reviews.
It so happened that I posted a profile picture with my Newfies. One day, I received a private Yelp message that someone also has two Newfies up in Lake Tahoe in Zephyr Cove, NV - a brown and a black puppy brothers. If you are familiar with Newfoundlands, you might know that having brown color Newfies is a somewhat rare occurrence. Very few Newfie breathers have brown pups, and even with brown mom and dad, the puppies might be black dependent on the family line. Because of that reason, people who would like to have only brown Newfie, must wait sometimes many months if not a year depending on the litter.
Anyway, I connected with the puppy owner, but we didn't had the chance to meet until recently as one of his pup had some medical problems. But now that he recovered, it was time to meet. If you have - or simply love dogs, - you may experienced the joy of seeing puppies playing with each other. It was amazing to see them immediately accept each other, walk like pack together and immediately accepting us. We had great fun. Not to mention that he is interested to buy land in Northern Nevada and know I have client.
Without Yelp and sharing my puppy images, this would not have happened.
However, Yelp has other ways to provide networking opportunities. I have written reviews that resulted in change in the business. Yelp local leathers often organize networking opportunities, play days at sponsoring local businesses. People connect with each other based on preferred restaurant or style of review.
It is a form of blogging, but it is more community and local business related. As result, people tend to read and interact with each other more.
Oh, here is the image of all the pups(my two pups to the left):
