Spring is here and and the  Texas wildflowers are blooming so it might be time to take some day trips around the Texas Hill Country.

Here are a few hill country destinations that would make great day trips:

  1. Enchanted Rock– If you've never been, this is a very cool park to visit. Enchanted Rock is a huge, pink granite exfoliation dome that rises 425 feet above ground! On your way back, you can stop off in charming Fredericksburg for food, shopping and German beer tasting!  Just be sure and go early, because the park does have a capacity that once reached they close the entrance until people have left.  Be sure and take water as well.  It can get fairly warm at the top.
  1. Wildseed Farms– This is a fun place to take kids (or kids at heart) and what better way to enjoy the wildflowers? Great Photo Opportunities.  Wildseed Farms has 200 acres of wildflowers in various stages of development there on the farm.  Near Fredericksburg and just a short drive from various wineries.  One of the vineyards,  Becker Vineyards (& Lavender farm) which has some really cool events (BBQ/Music/a Lavender festival).
  1. Perdenales Falls– This is great for hiking and camping.   Pedernales Falls is the park's main attraction and may be viewed from a scenic overlook at the north end of the park.  Swimming in the river or just relaxing on the rocks makes this a great place to bring a picnic lunch and stay awhile.
  1. Bandera, TX– Bandera is a fun place to shop, eat, and take in the “Cowboy Capital” culture… Bandera is after all, the Cowboy Capital of the WORLD.
  1. Hill Country State Natural Area:- If you are out near Bandera and feel like spending some time outside enjoying the scenic hill country and have a horse, this is the place to come with “approximately 40 miles of multi-use trails winding up grassy valleys, cross spring-fed streams, and steep limestone hills”.  Of course hiking and mountain biking is welcome as well.

Thanks to Lady Bird Johnson, TXDOT spreads more than 33,000 pounds of dozens of varieties of wildflower seeds along Texas highways each year and they are coming up right now.  So jump in the car and start to drive.  To find out where the best views are call the TXDOT Wildflower Hotline 800-452-9292.

Texas!  I spent some time there when I was in the Military (San Antonio and Wichita Falls).  I've driven across Texas on many road trips.  It's such a beautiful state, and the Hill Country is incredible.
