When it comes to price per square foot, San Antonio offers first time homebuyers, and even move up buyers very affordable homes. Yes, our Alamo City, home of the 5-time NBA Champions-the San Antonio Spurs was ranked the eighth best city in the nation for first time home buyers by the data from Smart Asset, a New York financial technology company.
Although the housing market has been booming, San Antonio still remains highly affordable with a price per square foot of $80.50. Plus, homebuyers can choose from new construction homes to pre-owned homes in the various communities throughout the city. New construction homes may be priced higher per square footage, but homebuyers are still getting a lot of home for their money compared to other parts of the country.
The new construction homes are favored for green building with energy efficiency, energy Star appliances, and costs savings on those utility bills, but the pre-owned homes are sought after by buyers, who want to live in the older estatblished neighborhoods, and historical communities that are closer to the inner city.
Other Texas cities also made the list with Houston finishing at No. 5; Dallas and Fort Worth tied at No. 10; Arlington was No. 13; Corpus Christi finished at No. 17 and Austin came in at No. 20. Of course, the top two cities on the list were Oklahoma City and Tulsa from the Sooner State.
Over the past several years, San Antonio’s housing market has been very strong. In fact, the Federal Housing Finance Agency reported that prices had increased by 8 percent from the third quarter of 2014 to the third quarter of 2015. Price growth has been consistently positive since the the end of 2011, with only three negative quarters since 2010.
