Why is Harder Then it Should Be to Rent a Condo
Years ago when the properties were recorded some of the title companies recorded the parking spaces instead of the unit letters Some units were recorded by the numbers not by the letters on the doors which are the address that the association and the post office go by .Yes it is confusing . When you sell one you should check and make sure the title company records it right .
The listing agent was meeting us at the property . It is a rental property . She finally called me and told me she was on street B could she get to the property that way? I told her no and gave her directions . I tried not to laugh but this was her listing . Next phone call was she was at the property where were we . Oh she forgot to tell me the unit number is wrong in the MLS do I know how to fix it . I informed her to call the MLS and or the Condo Association .
Next she starts questioning my client his name .Where he lives . I told her not to worry I have all the information . This did not stop this agent . Look she said the property is yours if you like it . Then she really over steps her bounds and tells him not to let me run a credit report call her niece she is a mortgage broker she will do it for him for free . I turned around and informed her that this development requires a full credit report and a criminal background check . No no she said the seller will want to meet them first so just send me a credit report from a mortgage company . Then she proceeds to tell them how much money I was making .
I do not normally do rentals but these are good friends as well as clients. We did as the agent requested and a mortgage broker ran a credit check . In good faith I forwarded it to her . I went about my business and realized I had not heard from her .I called her and she said where is the application and lease .
I had not been feeling well to begin with . I could have done everything the right way and should have .It is my own fault that I listened to this woman . Who insisted she never said any such thing .
Today I called the Condo Association received the proper documents to attach to the rental agreement . They looked up the name of the owner and told me the correct address I need to write on the agreement . The tenant must meet with us prior to moving in and meet with their approval .Plus the association requires a full credit report and a criminal background check . Just as I had said . We will see what happens from here
As the listing rental agent she should have all this information in my humble opinion .
