Going Stripless in Las Vegas: Day 1

By
Education & Training with Although I'm retired, I love sharing my knowledge and learning from other real estate industry professionals.

I recently returned from a 6 day, 7 night stay in Las Vegas.  When I told friends I planned a trip to Las Vegas, they naturally thought I was going to hang out on The Strip and gamble and attend shows... which isn't really my persona.

Our primary purpose in going to Las Vegas was to get out of the cold and enjoy some sunshine and warm weather, after a long and dreary winter in Central Washington State.   We took our golf clubs and walking carts.

On our road trip to Las Vegas, my friend and I made a pact to stay off The Strip during our entire stay. We knew there are lots of things to do in the Vegas area that have nothing to do with going anywhere near The Strip.

I am proud to say we were completely successful in our quest. We went totally Stripless in Vegas for an entire week.   How did we do it?

We arrived in Las Vegas on Friday evening, March 11th.  We checked into our condo at the Westgate Flamingo resort about 6:00 pm.  The Westgage Flamingo Resort is located about 2 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip, which is a very convenient location no matter what your agenda.

After checking in, we went to Ricardos Mexican restaurant down the street to unwind over a margarita and share an order of fajitas.  We were quite enjoying the evening until it was time to pay the bill and the waiter came along and punched the 20% tip button and swooped away with the pay station. We just looked at each other, wondering what had just happened.   We would have voluntarily given a generous tip but that was not cool and we never went back... and probably never will.

Tomorrow, I will report on our first full Stripless day in The Vegas area.

Looking forward to hearing what you did.  We took our kids there for vacation once and didn't go into a casino at all that trip.  Lots of fun family stuff to do there.

Carol- well I can't wait to learn more about your trip! I haven't been in several years but my favorite pastime there is people watching.

Good morning Carol Williams . I remember the last time that I went to Vegas I spent the whole $20 on one of the game machines and that was my extent of gambling. So yes, I can say that I gambled in Vegas.

Hi Carol... I guess since I lived overseas where the tip is factored into the price of the food, someone simply adding 20% doesn't really faze me too much. Did their menu say a 20% tip would be automatically added?

No, there were actually other options available.  I am a good tipper and we would have given the 20% but just felt him reaching over the table and punching that button was inappropriate.

I think that is so cool to set out to do it different. I agree that swoosh was not nice altough I usually tip at least that amount.
