The Art of Personal Development

I had to re post this blog. I think this is such a positive view of failure. Some of us take failure as a negative. Something good can come out of some of our worst circumstances. We either let the thing destroy us or we try and find the thing inside the event that can me viewed as a positive. I am not always a positive person but you never see very successful negative people.

A solid and executable business plan is a key ingredient to a great business. However, a large part of what we tackle during a Coaching session is the other key component: personal development. Each of our clients is a person with a story and feelings, after all.

So how does someone intentionally grow and improve to overcome anxieties, get better at asserting themselves in asking for referrals, becoming a clearer communicator? It cannot be left to chance. It all starts with having the right mindset, so we have a strong mental platform to begin to change for the better. Here are two tips you can focus on right now to improve your personal development:

Know Yourself

If you’re in Coaching with Buffini & Company, use your Heritage Profile for an objective look at how you come across to your clients. Identify areas you may need to manage, and skill sets that you should be focused on utilizing even more. Most clients find value in listening to their profile up to 7 times! A highly reactive profile may need to focus more on time management, to make sure that email and phone aren’t running their day. A highly relational profile may need to do more to get in front of their clients to get more joy out of the business building process. Perhaps some client parties are in order.

If you’re not in Coaching yet, your clients can provide excellent feedback too! Call up your friend who sold her home with someone else and ask her, “Was there anything I could have done differently to have earned your business?” It will be a difficult conversation to start but it will deepen the relationship in the long run. You will improve your professional skills based upon the feedback.

Failure is just feedback, don’t take it personal

Separate fact from feeling as you look at the situation you are in. You never deserve your circumstances; good or bad, they are simply outcomes of your choices mixed with the choices of others. What are the facts of your circumstances? If buyers seem to be leaving you because there is a shortage of inventory, look at how you are setting expectations with them at the beginning of the process. Could you do a better job explaining the offer process?

Failure gives us the feedback that one or more of our choices did not serve us. What one thing do you want to have change in your life? What choices are you making that seem to contribute to the problem? Stop doing that and start doing something else. Choose to be proactive in solving your problem. Do not let yourself believe that your problem is your deserved reality.

My hope is you put these tips into action and be proactive about your own personal development. Does it take time? Absolutely! But it’s an investment that pays dividends for years to come.

Good morning Kevin, great post to re-blog. If we're not failing, we're not learning. To fail successfully, we must keep pushing forward.
