Why does STL smell like smoke???
A cold front moving through the St. Louis area is pulling in the odor from several fires west of St. Louis. There are currently several thousand acres of grassland on fire in Kansas and Oklahoma. There is also a controlled burn occurring in Shannon County, MO, which is contributing to the smell in the region.

Why Shanna, I can see why you are baffled by some bucolic smoke odor drifting in from the Plains when you are used to the smell of smoke from suburban mayhem.

Surprisingly it smelled like someone had a fire pit going. Almost walked around back yards to see who was enjoying the night- I would have been looking for a long time!

When California and Washington were having big fires last summer, we could smell and see the smoke all the way out here in Colorado. Amazing how far it travels.
