Freshen the air in your home - Best ever advice

With the rainy season upon us, through no fault of her own, Halley gets a bit 'strong' smelling very quickly.  Even after a groom, a few days is all I will get because of her long furry coat.  Keeping her outside is out of the question.  As I type this she is on her love seat sleeping away.

This is not from me but a post in Active Rain, and I apologize for not remembering the author.  They suggested 1/2 cup white vinegar, water and some orange or lemon rinds.  Heat on the stove. Suggesting this would clean the air in your home and not just hide it.  I heat it then move to another room for a bit.

I would like to say this is a GREAT way to clean the air and have it fresh.  I tried it after reading the post and I am hooked on it now.  The rinds, I have used both lemon and orange, scent the air a bit for a short while but hardly noticeable, as is the white vinegar.  The smells are gone and the air feels crisp and clean.  Inexpensive way to really freshen up the house.

Good morning Mark. Thanks for the heads up, will give it a shot, as we have a dead mouse in one of our walls.

Also bowls of vinegar in various rooms will keep a closed up home from smelling musty. It gets rid of that Grandma house smell.

Bad smells, bad karma surrounding the real estate listing selling... if you can smell it, you can't sell it. Unless we're talking sparkling clean and brownies baking as you enter the kitchen. Go easy on the over powering candles... especially thinking they will over power the three heaping cat boxes. Not gonna neutralize that strong dank odor.

I like it.  Will use it.  If you can smell it, you can not sell it.  Happy Easter.  Mark

I sprinkle some cinnamon into the water and vinegar solution and simmer it on the stove. Or you can get it to almost boiling in the microwave and put it in various rooms around the house. It smells great!

Mark, Perhaps I will try this the next time I cook broccoli … that smell seems to linger for days.  So glad that keeping Halley outside is out of the question.  I believe our pets are part of the family and they belong inside with us … and loved unconditionally.

Happy Easter

Bacteria is the cause of most smells that come from living creatures. It is natural to have smell but not emily post If pets live indoors, animal cologne makes sense

Richie, in theory.  Although I wash the cologne off daily as well.  That would be quite a build up on the furry guy.  lol  Mark

Simple tip yet so valuable! Thanks for sharing it! My pooch is on the sofa snoozing away at the moment, and a little air freshener couldn't hurt!

I know this is no easier than spraying a store bought bottle of something, yet to me the results are so much better.  Enjoy your Easter.  Mark

I have a question... How much water do you use? Do you add the same amount of water as the vinegar?

It seems that vinegar is the answer to many problems.  I have had a problem with a listing and will try this immediately.

Is Halley a Bernese?  Our dog looks like a border collie, but she clearly has a Bernese parent . . .

Good recipe. I've tried a similar potion and it works well. I usually use it to neutralize cooking odors.

Using natural ingredients is so much better than anything with chemicals.  Most people enjoy the smell of citrus and that's why I recommend a natural spray called Pure Citrus .. it's made of enzymes and has a wonderful, natural scent.
