Prepping Your Outdoor Carpet

“May green be the grass you walk on. May blue be the skies above you…” Old Irish Blessing.

The green, green grass of your “home” is ready to sprout, but it might need a little help from you to be that lush soft carpet.

Time to get prep your lawn for Spring and Summer.

  • Remove all protective coverings and winter mulch from around shrubs and trees.104 Cibolo Pass Boerne, TX 78015
  • Prune trees and shrubs before new growth appears. Exceptions to this rule are flowering shrubs or trees (i.e. fruit) other trees to wait until after leafing are Walnut, Maple and Birch.

Do Not Prune Oak Trees in The Spring.  The dreaded Oak Wilt disease is very prevalent in South Texas and the Texas Hill Country. To prevent the spread of Oak Wilt, please do not prune your trees between February 1 and June 30.  Paint all fresh wounds on your oaks with a latex paint or wound dressing immediately.  Clean your pruning tools with 10% bleach solution between trees

  • Examine your lawn for moss, fungus or bugs. For mold and fungus it is best to contact a professional. Bugs you can treat with different products found at your local home improvement store.
  • Remove thatch buildup by aerating the soil. Not doing this can prevent water and air from reaching the soil for optimum growth and health of your lawn
  • Fertilize and then reseed. Check the instructions on your fertilizer for best application
  • Fertilize trees and shrubs
  • Find the best watering schedule for your lawn and area where you live
