Have you ever read a posting or comment, paused and then wondered what others may think of what you just read or seen? You should. More and more taking place today, is the reality of what one does or says and how it sticks around or affects others not just now, but in times to come. Today's activity may be tomorrows faux pas or worse still... a contradiction!
WHOA THERE!
I cringe when I read about anyone who is professional revealing profession secrets, thoughts or even making derogatory remarks and not just to their peers, but even to and about the public at large. The choice to take a position on something needs some responsible pausing...
SEE FOR YOURSELF
For a taste of this phenomenon, go back in time and read some of your own postings and comments. You will see what held up, made sense and was appropriate and what didn't....all for yourself. You be the judge and then you will get the point of how what is said and why needs to be respected
COULD CARE LESS?
If one is just on the Internet for fun, doesn't care about backlash or perhaps likes to instigate and bait others into a questionable forum or a lost cause that looks otherwise, then that person is the exception to the point I am making. Why? They don't care or have nothing to lose plus they are doing what they want. Question: Are you doing what you want or they want?
WHO IS USING WHO?
I use the Internet to make myself known for specific purpose. It is a always in my mind that I am doing a live program, which is capturing every word and keeping it for a time for a specific reason. That begs the question of: what do I want floating around out there and why? Is the Internet using you or you it?
TEMPTING ENTERTAINMENT?
One can easily get a false sense of security online. Even a false bravado as well where one feels courageous in telling someone..anyone.. what they truly feel and this same person, would not do these things in real life situations. It is wise to consider that cyberspace is not real but then again, has a false tempting type realness to it
YOUR QUOTED
It records YOU and captures your feeling or slant and freezes it time for its own purposes and so it should too. However, learning to feed the process, using it for your own purposes and deliberately creating a certain image or impression is something worth looking into.
PROFESIONAL INTERNETING
It's called marketing, advertising and branding. Public relations and image building companies specialize in presenting a product or service in a certain light favorable to the ones behind it all. There will always be people available to critique, be negative, distort and misuse the data. Don't help them!
YOU CAN TRAVEL IN REVERSE
It is interesting to note that if one says or does something that doesn't stand well the tests of time, it cannot be undone. The only next stage is to become defensive until whatever it is goes its way if it does. The public does have a short memory. This has been proven. However, now create something memorable not controversial or adversarial. Reverse marketing works but not in your favor.
SOBERING EXAMPLE
During the O.J. Simpson trial, the specific shoes he was wearing became known and relevant. They happened to be rare in size, for sale in certain areas and in construction. They were matched to bloody footprints at a crime scene. The question put to O.J. was: Do you or have you worn or own a pair of these shoes?
THIS IS A TELLING MOMENT
Knowing full well it links him to the crime, O.J. answers NO emphatically. Not long after wards, several pictures taking of him over the years in those shoes surfaced making him not only a liar but proving it. In the moment, when the miscellaneous and numerous pictures were being taken, who would have known how it all would come back, how or why, & there was no Internet back then either! Guilty!
HOW DOES YOURS READ?
Today, I see people making and doing what they do today without regard or awareness of it and these are professionals who offer services and products at large to the public. It is then wise to consider that what you do and say is now a matter of record. Question: How does your record read?
