We're really not playing an April Fool’s Day joke, guess what? It’s finally Spring time! Are you a gardener, camper, DIY’er, herbalist, biker or hiker? You’ve been itching to get outdoors for months, and now you finally can!
April, the month were everyone realizes winter is finally over. For some of us it means we can sa
fely get outside and not worry about the weather being too cold to enjoy our outdoor activities. For others we are overjoyed we can finally hit that “Spring Cleaning” list we made in the dead of winter, just dreaming about when we might make them a reality.
Spring cleaning has been the time most of us give the inside of our homes a thorough cleaning and let the fresh outdoor air inside. But now it is no longer just the inside of our homes we think about. Spring cleaning has moved to the great outdoors also!
What are some of the things you do for your “Spring Cleaning?” Do you concentrate on the outside of your home or the inside? Is it all general clean-up and touch-up or do you choose this time to do major repairs or renovations, before hot weather sets in?
Our list is quite extensive and covers everything! Most years there are always a few items that make it into our Fall Fixup list, or even next year’s Spring Cleaning list! But this year we are trying to keep in mind that anything can happen in our lives at any time. What if I needed to sell my home on short notice, what would I have wished I had taken care of earlier? What could I have cleaned up, repaired or changed that would make my home a place not only I loved living in, but others would want too also?
We separated our list into two major parts, outdoor and indoors. Then each of these lists got 
separated. The indoor list was sectioned off by rooms and the outdoor list by areas, such as front yard, garden, back yard, patio, etc. Then each of these “areas” got separated into two sections, the “we really need to do” items and the “if we have time” items!
Without copying our entire list here, which would take another two or three pages, at least, we thought we would list a few of those items we know would make our home more appealing to others if we had to sell on a moments notice.
- Have all the rugs cleaned and sanitized
- Touchup paint all the scuffs and chips on walls and woodwork
- Clean cobwebs off of ceiling fixtures, fans and ventilation grills
- Wash all the windows, inside and out
- Remove dust from anywhere we find it.
- Edging the driveway and sidewalk leading to the front of the house
- Pressure washing the front porch and door, then painting or staining if needed
- Cleaning up the entire yard of any fallen debris and weeds
- Trim all overhanging branches touching the roof, or interfering with mowing the lawn
- Clean the outside light fixtures, including any solar lights that are installed
Whew, makes me tired just reading about it, and this is only a few of the things we want to accomplish this spring! But when they are finished, we will feel satisfaction in knowing we have accomplished making changes and improvements in maintaining a clean and inviting home!
