What Donald Trump needs to learn about social media.

Whether he wins or loses, Donald Trump might have changed American politics forever.  He clearly is a genius at personal/business branding.

He's got Trump International Realty, Trump Classic Cars LLC, Trump Commercial Chicago LLC, Trump Cozumel Corp, Trump Marks Waikiki Corp, Trump On the Ocean LLC, Trump Toronto Development Inc, Trump Tower Commercial LLC, Trump Vineyard Estates LLC, and hundreds of others Trump businesses!

Politics is rough.  From my perspective, this year seems especially tough on the candidates.  So what does a powerful multi-billionaire like Donald need to learn about social media?

1.  Sometimes it's better to take the high road.

A perfect example of this is the situation with a super PAC supporting Ted Cruz that used a picture of Trump's wife, Melania.  The Donald got mad and retaliated on Twitter.  It would have been better for Donald to praise his wife, and then move on to other topics.

2.  Pause and think, for at least 24 hours.

Sometimes harsh things get said in the heat of the moment that, upon reflection, we wish we could take back those words.  With the internet we have the temptation to respond immediately.  It's better to write a response, and then sleep on it.  Re-reading a heated response, in the cool calm of the following day, can help prevent unwise comments from ever being posted.

3.  There are times when NO response is the best response.

I realize it's not easy!  However, it proves self-control.  This is the same strategy to use when dealing with internet trolls.  When you just ignore them, you take away the power of the troll to stir things up.  If you can summon the determination to walk away, and not respond, it makes you look like the better person.

It is often said we are really not mad at the situation but more so at ourselves for having lost our self control.  Good post.  Mark

I guess when you have that much money you can do and say anything you want.

That is, if your not running for President.

He may know a lot about the art of making deals, but not a lot when it comes to most human beings.

I am quite sure that Mr Trump is not listening to you me or anyone who it not telling him what a great job he is doing.

His biggest downfall is that those who advise him are afraid to tell him when he screws up.

These are all great suggestions.  Once we've put it there (especially in print), it's hard to take back.

All great suggestions that still apply TODAY (months later)!!  Oh, how I wish he knew how to take the high road, pause for 24 hours and PICK HIS BATTLES!  You have to admit, more Americans have shown interest in this election than any in our lifetime...if you're looking for the silver lining!!  Happy Friday, Bruce!
