Would You Rent or Buy Jeffrey Dahmer's  Home

Tonight on the national news, a segment about Jeffrey Dahmer's childhood home is on the market  for rent in July 2016 during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland Ohio.

Jeffrey Dahmer, a convicted serial killer, now deceased, used to live in a home built in 1952 in the city of Bath, Ohio and is 25 miles from Cleveland. This was his family home and the remains of his first victim was found in the woods behind this home.

The owner was renting the house for $8,000 for the month of July. In the past hour, the ad was removed and a new one appeared for $10,000.

The home was purchased in 2005 for $295,000 and the new owner has been renovating it. It is a 2,170 SF home with 3 Bed/2Bath, 2 acres, a pond, and backs up to the National Forest. The home is on the market for $297,000. The insides look very nice and what a great secluded area.

Is this a 'Stigmatized' home? Yes, it is and apparently the history of the home was disclosed when it was sold. Though the crimes occurred more than 3 years ago and Dahmer was sentenced in 1992 but since this was a highly publicized case and had numerous victims, the history of this home will probably be disclosed for many years.

You will always be reminded of the  brutal killings / cannibalization committed by a demoniac on that property, and elsewhere.

   No, thanks.

I suspect it will always be a stimgatized home that will create issues for buyers or renters. A former celebrity owner is one thing. A serial killer, well quite another. And no doubt everyone knows so it's not likely to fade away into obscurity

Worse yet was the commercial exploitation and various attempts to sell Dahmer's apartment building in Milwaukee as a tourist attraction. The building was eventually torn down in 1992.
