Though air may be damp and the winds may blow, life goes on in Flower Mound, Texas. It has been a week of executing contracts and home inspections. People are on the move!

Personal letters stuffed inside stamped envelopes went out from the Post Office before sunset yesterday. They will be delivered to family and friends from distant places, overseas and the Midwest. As I walked out the swinging glass door my eyes drifted to the white Iris planted below the trees, wind blowing. Thus, the inspiration for today's writing.

Vividly, I recall the neighbor's yards filled with Iris' in front door gardens. I must have been six or seven years old and I can still hear the next door neighbor say, you can look, but you cannot touch! So I touch others with photographs and words in hopes I can send inspiration to spread like seeds in the wind.

Everything is coming up Iris and roses! Buyers hope! Sellers excited! Licensed Agents fare all types of weather while in the back of their minds are personal commitments, fond memories of family and friends, hope that sales close to bring families closer together. Hope, it is the cloth we are made of from the threads of our linens, similar fabric of souls of our ancestry, and the dreams of tomorrow.

As a native to Chicago, I'm delighted to hear the Iris are just beginning to pop up in your garden! I have lilac late bloomers in my garden and the leaves are taller than I've ever seen before! I'm looking forward to see how tall they get!

Your story about your wife's family farm sounds wonderful! I could only dream about having something like that. The fact that its roots go deeper than ordinary Iris bulbs planted from store bought Iris packets is an amazing story. When yours are in full bloom it must be a spectrum of colors more beautiful than the rainbow in the sky! Although a rainbow is a phenomenon and lovely to look at, it disappears. Your garden last for a life time of pleasure offering hope and beauty.

I'm thinking, how many hands had their hands in your wife's family farm to make it grow and flourish! Thank you for share that great story!

Patricia,

Lovely poem.  I read an article that people who have hope are healthier and happier.  I loved your poem, and here is a favorite quote by Emily Dickinson,

"Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul--and sings the tunes without the words--and never stops at all."

Happy Saturday, A

Gene Mundt, IL/WI Mortgage Originator - FHA/VA/Conv/Jumbo/Portfolio/Refi - that's an amazing story about being a part of a sales contract! If you haven't wrote a story about that, it would make a great story on ActiveRain!

I'll be in Chicago in August for a wedding but it will be in Dowtown. If I could visit with you I would, but I have a lot of territory to cover in a very short window.

Such a beautifully written post. I remember the smell of laundry on the line --- you just can't replicate it with a dryer. Your poem is lovely and conjures up many childhood memories and your photo of the Iris --- well how can you improve on nature's perfection. Thanks for sharing Patricia Feager

This is chock full of inspiration and all with a simple symbol...a white flower filled with hope. Irises have been my favorite flower filled with childhood memories of them growing beside our first home in Boston NY, a small enclave outside of Buffalo. I used to cut them and take them, long stems and all to my teachers. Just love your spirit, and your poetry and all that you embrace!

Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 - I love spring flowers. I've always been intrigued by the Iris, paintings of them too!

I loved your story! I have a feeling if we had unlimited time and money, we'd be hiking through the woods enjoying the spring flowers right now, enjoying each others company and swaping childhood stories. As a child, I was so enchanted and drawn to Lilies of the Valley. I imagined little wedding bells ringing in the forest for fairies and the Princess! I love the Iris too - so strong and determined to bring forth joy at the onset of spring! A few posts ago, I posted a purple one that really captivated my heart and touched my soul.

Thank you for being a beautiful spirit here on ActiveRain and always being so kind to me.

Hi Patricia, Thank you for the nice post about hope and the promise of things ahead.  Spring is good in that way! Your poem about linens pinned on a clothes line brings me back to early elementary days, running in between the sheets blowing in the wind on the clothes line in the back of our row home on wash days...and being aware of the blue sky and billowing clouds over head, the flowers growing along the fence....and not a care in the world other than reading the movements of the sheets as they blew in the wind!

Thanks for the flashback!  Happy Spring!

Hi Gloria Todor - your writing is pure poetry! It was very uplifting and musical to my ears. Your words conjured up lots of images and movement, like an old silent movie flick! It was simply beautiful and I enjoyed reading your well written and very poetic words!

Interesting enough, before my Aunt passed away, she showed me and her other neice some records of my two uncles and grandparents. My dad wasn't born yet, but the rest of them lived in Harrisburg, PA where my grandfather worked in the coal mines. She showed us the address where they lived and I distinctly remembered seeing Row House with a number on a post card. She told me that when they lived in the Row Houses, they all had to subscribe to the same religion and workers were numbered. I sure wish I would have asked her more questions, but I guess I always thought I'd have more time with her, but I didn't.

It would definitely be interesting for me to have that information now and do some research! But if there's a way, I wouldn't know. Do you know the history of those Row Houses?
