Some People May Not Know What Dogwood Winter Is All About.

Dogwood winter in Clarksville
If you live in Clarksville, Tennessee, sometime in the month of April you will start to see the dogwood trees bloom. Then as spring tries to find its footing and the temperatures bounce from hot to cold, you will see the blooms of the dogwood trees fully open. It is almost as if the cooler weather inspires the trees to go into full regalia.

In Clarksville TN we just had a dip in temperatures and at night we have had frost and freeze warnings. After all it is only the first of April and this is to be expected. Spring still has plenty of time to mellow out and offer milder weather.

Dogwood Winter in Clarksville is one of several cooler periods we go through in spring on the way to summertime. Thank goodness we are not seeing any snow with this year's Dogwood Winter and we should be warming up next week. Having temps in the 50's and 60's is not that bad or reason to complain.

Our temperatures dropped a couple of days ago after being in the 70's and 80's for several days. The winds were strong being up to 30 and 40 miles per hour causing severe storms in other parts of Tennessee. We did not get this really bad weather, just the cooler temperatures.

This is what the Farmer's Almanac has to say about Dogwood Winter.

There is no need to worry because cooler temperatures won't stick around long in Clarksville. It will warm up and then cool down again as we will again have a few more cold spells before spring is ready to take hold. We still have Blackberry Winter to come and that brings the best time for picking blackberries during the entire year.

Good morning Debbie. No matter what you call it, when in bloom it must be an amazing site. Won't see anything like that in our area today, as it is snowing.

Debbie, had not heard of dogwood winter, and those are hearty blooms.   The bulbs we had up were pretty hearty too after more than a foot of snow, and still blooming!

Hi Debbie - I really miss the dogwoods I grew up with - they always added great spring color, as good as cherry blossoms in my opinion.

Hi Debbie - we are getting the more extreme version of that.  After being in the 60's we had a very big drop below freezing with some snow.  It was very cold yesterday.

Beautiful site indeed.  Our spring has been really cool.  I think our Dogwood will bloom in about 2 weeks.  Still budding out.
