A Visit To The Broad in Los Angeles
Recently I made a visit to The Broad in Downtown Los Angeles. This is the contemporary art museum built by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad. The museum is located at 221 South Grand Avenue next to Disney Hall and diagonally across the street from The Museum of Contemporary Art(MOCA).
The architecturally unique museum was designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro(DS+R) and combines both gallery space and collection storage. A new term for me, the design has been called “the veil and the vault”.
I have prepared a slideshow to give you an idea of some of the art I found on my first visit...the museum opened in September 2015 and has been attracting a new kind of museum visitor -- younger than the average museum-goer. It’s free(general admission)… there are mobile apps to enhance your experience...photography is encouraged...and the visitor services associates are quite helpful. This creates, in my opinion, a cultural experience that is definitely atypical.
It really is time for a return visit for me…advance reservations are recomended but a standby first come, first serve line is also available.
Oh, and by the way Broad is pronounced Broad as in rhyming with toad or road. The Broad is just another example of “there’s always something going on in Los Angeles”.
If a move to the Los Angeles area is in your future....I would be happy to discuss the real estate possibilities in the areas where I practice real estate. Let’s discuss what is important to you. I can be reached at 818.516.4393 cell.
