Why Active Rain Is Better Than Con Ed

Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

I have my continuing education finished for this year and although the class was helpful I would have to say there is more learning that goes on here in the Rain than a class could ever cover.  The reasons Active Rain is so incredibly helpful are many more than I can conjure up, but here is my list:

1.  People discuss current events.  Con Ed often is a class written by someone about real estate from a year ago.  Real Estate is not only local, which is true.  It is also current.  Someone who knew the market very well 5 years ago and started teaching doesn't understand our short sale, foreclosure market today.

2.  Rainers discuss what really works.  Marketing and spending your hard earned dollars...if you want to be ahead of the ball, you must be a part of Active Rain.  Current example:  videos.  They will encourage you and teach also how to edit and why it's such an important additional to your blog.

3.  Important laws like plagiarism..and if you are newer to Active Rain you might think this topic is easy.  Go look at a post by Rich Jacobson: Plagiarism-for-Dummies and you will see many thoughtful questions and answers after an excellent post.

4. Ethics of blogging.  Reciprocal commenting and how to really connect.  That's when the fun begins because you make friends and business associates who can be referral for the future when your seller moves...all huge benefits to spending time here.  Can you write without reading others?  Of course you can do that, but you miss out on wonderful writers, gripping tales, excellent education, sometimes good jokes and maybe recipes ;-).  Really connecting to others is the fun of this medium.

 5.  The other problem with con ed is that as the hours past and I get more and more tuned out and here on AR you can hang out when you are ready to read and enjoy.  You can write when you feel up to sharing.

I would never miss my con ed, I promise you but I also think there are many people who teach those classes and you get a great reminder of important business tips everyday you spend time here.

Enjoy and learn while you spend your time here in the Rain!  Don't forget your Continuing Education as well.   If you can ad to my list please do so or tell me how valuable your con ed class is...great.  I'd love to hear about it.

I agree with you! I have done AR for about a month now. I am amazed everyday at what I learn from the comments on these blogs. Great Blog!

I love AR because of the speed at which information is shared.  I love that they have set it up to encourage people to read other blogs and it has now become my morning ritual.  I have learned much more than I thought I would have and have read some really interesting stories.  Just saw one today about a realtor taking pictures of some pbublic buildings and being reported to the local police as a suspected terrorist.  I love the variety

Becky,  Welcome to AR!  Oh I think you will find, if you haven't already, that there are many wonderful people here and real strong friendships formed with people in other states.  How great is that?

Scott,  I agree the variety is one of the things I really love too!  The people here can be extremely talented and willing to share.

Lucky me, I get to do my continuing education classes tomorrow.  I'll be looking forward to coming back to the Rain later in the day, and see what I missed.

It's a great community, but it can have the following two pitfalls:
1. can be like a family with some pretty heated bickering from time to time
2. just like anything on the internet, sometimes the information is only as reliable as the source which might not be saying much, considering the source! :)

Christopher,  just relax tomorrow and gain knowledge and then tell us what you've learned!

Endea,  Thanks for stopping by and it's great to hear you like your experience in the Rain.

Ron,  Yes, you are right.  The information is only as good as the person sharing.  There are some very savvy business folks here & I love to read their posts.

Hi Karen...One thing about the continuing ed classes, I can digest them.  The bell rings and we are dismissed from class.  On AR...we are never finished.

Cheers from a worn out, weary Rainer.

Nice comparisons, Karen. Although teachers can be better versed on the market conditions than you might want to give them credit for.

Hello Karen- I agree but I just need my principal broker to agree! But pretty soon all continuing ed in Oregon is going to have to be certified courses!

Karen, this is great and  I so agree. Actually, I have said many times that it is better than any GRI class, I ever took. If anyone wants to know anything here just put the topic in the Search bar and dozens of posts come up.

Hi Karen!  I've yet to do my continuing ed for the year and HAVE to do it this month--and you are SO correct:  I'd MUCH rather spend time learning on AR!  Great post!
