Conquer Your Week
by Joseph Sica
We tend to look forward to the weekend as if it will last an eternity, a paradise filled with happiness and bliss no matter your plans; compared to the struggles that transpire during the week. They are the Lamborghini’s, the hover-boards, the Keller Williams’ of the week. Whereas Monday is just like that overrun minivan your dad hand-me-downed for your first car that you wish you didn’t have to drive but yet at the end of the day, it was better than walking. Let me put it this way, weekends have the power that tricks our brain into believing waiting at the DMV for hours and hours just seems a tiny bit better on a Saturday than a Monday. You get the point. But what if we all felt that carefree, no stress feeling we experience on a Saturday or Sunday morning? Insane, right? Wrong.
The opportunity to surmount any struggle, hardship, or even mistreatment, all depends on YOU. The power to control your week starts and ends with YOU. How you will do it depends solely on your attitude. Although motivation can be a start, most of the time it’s temporary. Instead of finding materialistic motives, look within yourself and what you need to change to start taking control. I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t admit to ever using my paycheck or buying tickets for a sporting event to motivate me to get through the week. But that’s not the point. You can use those tickets to keep you motivated but what happens when that event is over? What will be the next temporary alternative for you to wake up on a Monday morning?
The point is to find sustained motivation that keeps you hungry to be successful and truly happy with who you are. Your family, the idea of one day having a comfortable retirement, or a girlfriend… these examples should be the stepping stone to success. The blessing of my family, my girlfriend, my job, and what I want for the future keeps me hungry to grow and stay driven even when I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders. Finding your inner drive to spark that fire under you shouldn’t wait either, and it’s never too early to start. Keep this in mind the next time you set your alarm for 6:30 AM on a Sunday night. YOU have the power to conquer your week.
