2016 Hilton Head Boat Show

2016 Hilton Head Boat Show

Ahoy Matey! well, perhaps that greeting is best suited for the island pirate cruise but still.....

When: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 22-24, 2016

Where: Windmill Harbour

Hours: Varying times according to the day
What: 12th Annual Hilton Head Boat Show
Cost: $12 per person in advance, $15 per person at the door (children 12 and under free)

What is going on?

The Hilton Head Boat Show is one of the loveliest spring events and it's a great way to come inside the gates of Windmill Harbour and get a view of yachts, speed boats, wooden boats, kayaks, and everything in between. If you've never been to an 'in the water boat show' (ala Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, FL), this is a great way to view these beauties in their natural habitat and envisioning yourself at the helm.Where can you get tickets?

What other things can you expect?

Though the boat show is certainly centered on boats, according to Craig Freeman, Executive Director for the Hilton Head Boat Show – for the second year – “it’s our premier event for showcasing the water come alive.”

There will be food vendors, artisan crafts, live music, Coast Guard and Sea Tow demonstrations. To add to the fun attendees will have the opportunity of actually learning about kayaking and paddleboarding with boats provided by Outside Hilton Head.

On Saturday and Sunday, the 2016 Paddlefest, presented by Outside Hilton Head will have people paddling all around the beautiful marshes, doing yoga on their paddleboards (not me, however, I’m not quite that proficient yet); there will also be activities for the kids. If that isn’t enough to do, for the first time this year, you’ll have the opportunity to sign up for a cruise into the Intracoastal Waterway!

If staying on terra firma is more your idea of fun, strolling around the 15 acre marina of Windmill Harbour and seeing the South Carolina Yacht Club will make the day perfect!

Hints to enjoy the Hilton Head Boat Show!

1. Unlike other events, this really isn’t a festival but more of an enjoyable outing for all members of the family – not sure if they allow pets so I’d leave them at home.

2. Be patient – there is a gate to enter Windmill Harbour so please be courteous to the guards, this event will bring over 2000 extra visitors to the normally very quiet community and the lines to get in can be a bit long. Be sure to park in the designated areas and if possible, car pool!

3. Wear rubber soled shoes! If you’re planning on going aboard, you’ll need something both soft and that has some gripping power – you sure don’t want to scratch the finishes and you sure don’t want to fall overboard!

4. Don’t feel – or give in to – the overwhelming urge to caress the shiny brass fittings! I know they’re gorgeous but they represent hours of work of polishing.

5. DO take loads of pictures and DO ask loads of questions and DO show appreciation to the various owners – perhaps you’ll be one someday and I’m sure that you’ll enjoy the spotlight too!

Doesn't this sound like a great thing to do? Wouldn't you LOVE to live in a community like this? CLICK HERE FOR SOME CURRENT LISTINGS!
