The Master Bedroom can sometimes be the most neglected room in the house. But when it's time to sell, this room must appeal to viewers, after-all it is where the person paying the mortgage will sleep. It is definitely a space worth spending "staging effort" to achieve a wow factor. Here are some tips for the master, as well as the secondary bedrooms.
- The master bedroom is the most critical room. Make sure the bedding, the window treatments and the paint colour all coordinate.
- Run a vacuum over the rug every day. Dust the dressers and side tables often.
- Make the beds every day.
- Keep laundry hampers out of plain view, and make sure clothing and other items are not strewn about on the floor.
- Ensure the side tables have only the bare minimum of accessories, i.e. table lamp, clock or clock radio and a book. Remove all personal pictures.
- Tuck away jewellery boxes, collections or other items of value.
- Open the drapes to let in natural light. Make sure the windows are clean.
- Clean the light fixtures. If the light fixture is dated, replace it.
- If you are using an above-grade bedroom as on office or a storage space, convert this room back into a bedroom. The property will appeal to more buyers this way.
- In children's room, pack excess toys, books and clothing. Make sure the floor space is as clear as possible. Remove anything that has your baby or child's name on it, for safety reasons.
- In teens' rooms, remove posters, trophies, and other items of a personal nature.
