The County of Kauai offers FREE Hazard waste disposal for residents twice a year. Currently it is set for this weekend at the following locations:
1.This Saturday April 9, 2016 at the Kapaa Base Yard, 4900 Kahau Rd, which is at the end of the road by Kapaa Armory or Bryan Baptise Sports Park. Hours from 9am to 4pm.
2. This Saturday April 9, 2016 at the Hanalei Transfer Station which is located on the mauka side of the highway east of Princeville, 5-3751 Kuhio Highway. Hours from 9am to 4pm.
3. This Sunday April 10, 2016 at the Lihue Transfer Station at 3450 Ahukini Road, past the airport. Hours from 9am to 4pm.
4. This Sunday April 10, 2016 at the Hanapepe Transfer Station, 4380 Lele Road, that's the road to the Veterans Cemetery. Hours from 9am to 4pm.
I participated in the last free disposal. After 27 years of living in the same house, my husband had accumulated some batteries, automotive/motorcycle products and other questionable items. I wanted them out of my garage closets. We gather them and took them down to the Kapaa site. There they had ample people helping to unload. They took everything. But before you pile up your truck please take a look at the county website at www.kauai.gov/hhw to see the list of what's acceptable and what's not.
I want to thank the County of Kauai for making an effort to keep the island green. If you miss this weekend's disposal there is another one coming up in October. Please participate and bring a cleaner environment to your home and life.
