When moving to a new home or updating our current home, sometimes a easy way to really change the room is to simply add blinds and/or curtains.  But if we’re being completely honest there are so many different types of curtains and blinds that choosing the best ones (or the right ones) for you space can be tricky.  These following is a list of the benefits that come with the most popular types of blinds.

Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are very common.  They’re the standard light-control window blind and are usually made of plastic or vinyl.  The benefits of Venetian blinds are that they are easy to control, low maintenance, and very easy and inexpensive to install.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds are the kinds you see most often on patio doors. They’re also the most inexpensive way to really decorate your windows with blinds.  Vertical blinds come in many different colors so you’re sure to find something to fit your taste and style.  Do you have an extra large window that would cost you a fortune to buy curtains for?  Go with the vertical blind!  It will dress up the room for a lot less money.

Roman Blinds are very elegant and add a touch of class to any room.  They are usually made out of a fabric and are raised and lowered using a pull cord. These shades range from feminine to masculine and tailored so you’re sure to find Roman blinds that fit your style.  The biggest benefit of these  blinds is that they have been around a long time and don’t seem to be going anywhere.  You don’t have to worry about investing in these blinds because they are always in style.

Window Panels

Also called window treatments, window panels are often confused with curtains. This is because they are large pieces of fabric but the difference is they operate on a top and bottom track of the window.  Big time benefits of window panels are that they save energy and give better  light control.  Because they are a thicker fabric they keep heat and cold out more efficiently.  It’s easy to adjust the light in a room with window panels because you simply move the panel up or down to allow more or less light or to allow light in at the top or bottom of the panel.  It’s actually really nifty!

Traditional and plantation shutters are similar in size and shape but the difference is plantation shutters have adjustable panels so even when they’re closed you can adjust how much light you let in.

  • There are many benefits with plantation shutters.  Because they are custom made for each window, they increase your resale value which is a huge plus. The adjustability of the shutters makes it easy to air out a room as well.  Plantation shutters are really beautiful additions to a home and they certainly increase curb appeal.

  • Traditional shutters are also very nice additions to a home.  They are extremely energy efficient in that they allow you to completely close off a drafty window during the winter and summer.  This also allows for more privacy and helps keep out external noises such as street noise or barking dogs.  These shutters are also a more hygienic option for those who may suffer from indoor allergies.  Because they are wooden they extra easy to clean and collect less dust than your average blind.  Traditional shutters are also a sound investment and will increase resale value.
