Hike Dishman Hills near the Spokane Valley
Last Sunday, Tana and I, hiked the Dishman Hills Natural Area and thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine, the smell of warm pine needles and a bounty of spring flowers blooming everywhere. The gravel and bare dirt trails wound around interesting rock bluffs and vantage points. We enjoyed a perfect view of snow capped Mt. Spokane and the urban sprawl of the neighboring City of Spokane Valley.
With several trails to choose from, hiking different trails makes each visit unique. This was our first visit and of course we wondered why we hadn't done it sooner. It reminded us a bit of another favorite hike: Tubbs Hill in Idaho but without the glittering water of Lake Coeur d'Alene in the distance.
Dishman Hills is a terrific location to get in a quick hike and to feel like you are farther away from home than you really are. Plus it is free.
We discovered Camp Caro Lodge situated in the community park and learned it is available for rent for private events such as family reunions or receptions.
If Dishman Hills isn't challenging enough, or you have "been there, done that", consult the Inland Northwest Trails Coalition website for a new and more rigorous experience.
For us it was great just to get outdoors. Spokane is a great place to work and play.
