Here in the Ohio Valley, this is a difficult question to answer because this time of year involves questionable weather. Now we don't mean questionable because of rain amounts. We mean it may snow one day and be in the 60's the next day.

Our general guideline for when to plant in the Ohio Valley is to go by the horse's schedule.
This means we always go by the Kentucky Derby. The first weekend in May is a good time frame to shoot for.

This month is usually a little late for most plants except for melons and summer squash.

This month is the best for a second batch of planting.
