During the first week of April this year, we have seen some wet weather in Ka'anapali allowing me to capture this dramatic sunset during a pretty heavy rain downpour. This is shot from my house in Ka'anapali Golf Estates, a nice home community located on the mountain slopes of Mauna Kahalawai (West Maui Mountains) above the Ka'anapali Golf Courses and overlooking the Ka'anapali Resort including Whaler's Village, Ka'anapali Ali'i, the Whaler at Ka'anapali, and the Sheraton Hotel to north perched on the iconic "Black Rock" You can also see the gentle silhouettes of Lanai and Molokai island, the two other islands that comprise Maui County.
This winter weather is a bit ucommon during this time of the year as we move into "Spring" in Hawaii. This storm was between some light wind "Kona" weather days where the prevailing winds from the northeast shut down and we instead get very light winds from the southeast hence "Kona" which is a city on Hawaii Island, in the southeast direction of Maui. El Nino has created some unusual weather patterns this year but we feel blessed to have the rain and I am not gonna lie, the Surf has been awesome!
A more common Ka'anapali Maui Day
This shot is also taken from our house just a few days previous to the awesome rain storm. A little more typical day on Maui! This shot looks north towards Molokai island, I feel that the sea cliffs on Molokai which in some areas are 4,000 ft. straight up from the surface of the ocean are some of the most incredible sites I have ever seen. You agree?
Maui on your mind?
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make Maui your Reality.
