Animals of the MLS

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Zion Realty

We have another front and center four-legged family friend featured on this week's Animals of the MLS. The amount of curiosity bound up in this pint size canine could fill the room. They're just dying to check out what this agent is doing in their domain! If dogs could talk this one would be begging and pleading to be released so that they could thoroughly sniff and investigate the picture taking stranger. If you notice, there are two kennel's present but the smaller one is too enclosed to tell whether multiple mutts are being imprisoned to allow for this photo shoot.

Many homeowners with smaller animals such as this one would opt to keep them free to roam during a home showing because of the perceived innocent nature of modestly sized pets. However, a cute and friendly dog can be a negative distraction. Potential home shoppers are there to view your property. You want them to carefully examine and explore each room and all of the wonderful features your home offers. This process can be interrupted by a pet's begging for attention or constant barking. Would you rather a buyer remember your home as a possible match for them or how needy and/or disturbing your pet seemed to be? It's always best to either completely remove your dog from the home if at all possible or have them kenneled to minimize their impact on a home showing.

As for the picture itself I personally feel as though this laundry room needed to either be cleaned, straightened and updated, or not featured in the listing at all. Unless there is a particularly special selling feature of a laundry room most potential home buyers don't need a visual example. An agent should certainly specify where the laundry room is located, i.e. inside, outside, upstairs, or downstairs but laundry rooms are generally an afterthought for most people when it comes to single family homes. As long as there is one included most buyers won't be disappointed that there wasn't a photo included on the listing. If you are going to feature your laundry room, however, make sure it's organized, clean, and presentable.

If you're selling your home in Gilbert, Arizona or the East Valley let the experts at Zion Realty help you. We take professional photos and put together a perfect marketing strategy to sell your property. Contact us at ZionRealtyAZ.com today!

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert That's no dog; thta's a hungry fox looking for the hen house! When shooting photos for a real estate listing, I always try to avoid the family pet shots, but sometimes it can't be helped. Then Mr. Photoshop does it's thing for me.

Poor little Fido.  I'm sure this process is very stressful for him.  As for the laundry room, you are right.  They needed to take a little cleaning solution and decluttering to that room.

I am a pet owner, but some of my past buyers do NOT like pets--and the sight of dog dishes or bedding is a turn-off.  So, I tell my sellers if at all possible--make your home appear as if no pets occupy the home OR at the very least, remove the pets for the showing.

Nicole,

You are right about cleaning up the laundry room, and I feel for the caged in pup.  A

Nicole, There is a lot going on in that laundry room.  When I see these photos my heart goes out to the animals.  There is a better way ... for everyone ... including the precious pets.

So glad you mentioned the condition of the laundry room and no it has no special feature so why, is the question of the day.

I'm going with cat for the smaller crate. LOL  They could have made the shelves neat and removed the crates for the photo to show the roomy space of the laundry room, but alas some times people are lazy.

Nicole this is another picture that does not make sense to me.  I wonder what purpose the Realtor thought this picture would serve.

I always get a kick out of your "Animals of the MLS" Nicole!  Like George Souto says, I don't get that this picture serves purpose in the MLS.

Hi Nicole -- I'm not sure why this photo was included except to possibly warn showing agents that a dog(s) was/were present.   It is a large room that could be an asset if it could be staged/presented in a different way.

There seems to be no end to bad photographs taken and/or to be found in the mls.  Thanks for this week's edition.

Susan - Unless it has some extraordinary feature the laundry room isn't a necessity to show in my opinion.

Kim - Yes they do and more agents are actually using them.

Raymond - I hope that was his good side.

Grant - They do have a lot of stuff in there that's for sure.

Sheila - I agree. A home should be absolutely clean and neutralized from pets as much as possible.

S & N - That little guy does look like a fox.

Belinda - If you're going to show the laundry room it should be just as clean and organized as the rest of the home.

Sonja - Pets in the home will turn away a lot of buyers.

Alexandra - I might have even suggested some fresh paint on the walls to liven up the space a little bit.

Kathleen - He just wants to be free to sniff anyone he pleases. Is that too much to ask?

Roger - Watch out for those laser eyes!

Liz - This laundry room did not need it's own photo or a feature on the MLS at all.

Tammy - I agree on all of that. And if they're going to be lazy about it then don't even take a picture of this room.

George - I guess they figured if it's a room in the house then they would photograph it and show it.

Myrl - It didn't. I just hope the rest of the pictures weren't this bad.

Michael - Maybe there will come a day when having a home professionally photographed will be the standard.

It amazes me how many agents give you fodder for this feature, which I love!  Put those animals away, people!

Maybe they would like to include the pup in the sale? I had a dog dart into a photo the other day, but no convincing the seller's that it's not the best feature.....

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert I'm an animal lover too, but see no reason for this photo to be on the MLS.  It adds nothing except to say the laundry is located inside the house , which can easily be said in the listing.  As to the dogs, my dogs crates have always been in my bedroom or in the living area so that part disturbs me.
