Jazz FestJazz Fest 2016

Its Festival Time in Louisiana and in just a short few weeks is the coveted New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival AKA Jazz Fest. Starting April 22nd – May 1st.  People travel from all over the world to attend this eclectic music festival.  Just last year about 30 minutes outside of New Orleans I had the pleasure of speaking to a couple from Sweden, drenched in tourist apparel and were eager to learn anything they could from the locals… So much so that they elected to spend the night in a few small towns outside of New Orleans before the festival to really see what all Louisiana had to offer.  The interest outsiders have in our city and our state for that matter just goes to show you what a unique and special place Louisiana really is.

Here is a quick list of Tips and Information for Jazz Fest:

Jazz Fest 2016

What to Wear?

It’s going to be hot, even if the temperature isn’t all that high, it is going to be HOT in the sun.  Make sure you wear sunscreen and bring a hat and sunglasses! This will likely be your first sunburn of the season unless you cover up and lather up. Clothing?  Probably as little of it as you can get away with.  Otherwise something light and airy and comfortable. And Shoes- sandals and dress shoes may look ‘Cute’ but they aren’t going to do you any good, especially if it rains.  Sneakers, boots, rainboots, and even shrimp boots would be best.  Just make sure you don’t mind getting them dirty or even ruined.

The Food

They should probably rename it New Orleans Jazz, Heritage, & Food Festival! There are tons of places to choose from.  Go hungry and if you really have your heart set on something go early to avoid the inevitable lines.  If you see someone eating something interesting, don’t be shy, ask them what it is! And if you’re drinking remember to stay hydrated the heat doesn’t play. Oh yes and Cash don’t forget to bring cash.Jazz Fest 2016

Company

If you don’t want to lose your friends, don’t separate.  Cell service is limited with such large crowds. If you want to lose someone however just go to the port-o-potties and wal-la alone at last. And the kids! Why not bring the kids along to enjoy this experience they have a special tent just for them.
