Make your Sink Shine!

By
Home Stager with Dressed for Success

Have a dull dirty Sink?  This is the best way to clean it and make it Sparkle!!!  Also works well to get those stains out of porcelain sinks.

Nothing says a clean Kitchen like a clean sink!

BE SURE AND RINSE WELL BETWEEN EACH STEP OF THE WAY!

  1. Take all the dishes out of the sink.

  2. Run some very hot water into the sink. Fill to the rim. Only do one side at a time. Then, pour a cup of household bleach into the hot water. Let it sit for 1 hour. Now, pull the plug with a pair of tongs. If you don't have tongs, then scoop some of the water out of the sink into the other sink and use your hand to pull the plug (wear gloves and don't get the bleach-water on your clothes).

  3. Rinse your sink well.

  4. Use some cleanser (Comet, Ajax, or Baking Soda) and scrub your sink. Ensure you rinse ALL of the cleanser from the sink.

  5. Take a sharp edge and clean around the rim of the sink, just like you would clean dirt out from under your fingernails.

  6. Clean around the faucets too. You may need an old toothbrush or dental floss.

  7. Now, get out your window cleaner, I use Windex, and give it a good shine.

    8.    If you still can't get it to shine after the Windex, put a light coat of lemon oil or olive oil on it. I mean just a tiny bit on a cloth and rub it. This will make you smile. You can also try car wax.

I try and "FLY" every day... especially now that I'm back to work!  Even if I can't do everything, I try and do at least 1 mission a day!

and that pic is actually my own kitchen sink!

SO weird- my friend and I were just talking about this site today.  I remember hearing about it a couple of months ago, Marci and Judy K. were talking about it.  Today I cleaned my sink and faucet with a toothbrush and comet, windex, lemon oil and ss cleaner- I spent over 20 minutes on it and it looks great.  It doesn't shine like yours though, maybe because I didn't do the bleach soak.

I'm not peeking ahead, so we'll see what I'm supposed to do tommorrow.  I already told my kids we have to donate 27 things (a week?).  I cannot stand clutter, but I may have the opposite syndrome of being a pack-rat, I'm constantly cleaning out and getting rid of way too much!

Gina -

You may not need to declutter then!  Lucky you!  If you follow the rest of the system, it will still help, I promise.  If there is nothing to declutter you do not have to get rid of the things you love and use.  You adapt this program to fit your lifestyle and count your blessings if you don't need the whole program.

Great tip, a detail often overlooked.  I've heard so much about this Fly Lady but until now had never visited the website, an extremely valuable resource.
