What's your lawn looking like?

Thanks to our friends at Sharpe Landscapes, our home is looking good for spring. Our garden beds are mulched and edged nicely. Our lawn is seeded and beginning to sprout.

What needs to be done in the yard this spring? Here's a checklist to make sure your yard is summer-ready!

  • If you had winter tree wrap on any of your trees, now is the time to remove it.
  • Prune and divide your perennials and grasses now, but don't prune trees yet except to remove diseased or dead branches.
  • Remove excess mulch and any remaining leaves to prevent water from April showers collecting (and molding) around plants.
  • Aerate your lawn or rake it to clean up any remaining organic matter hanging out on the surface of the soil.
  • Fertilize the lawn and remove dandelions and other weeds. Reseed any dead pathces.
  • Enrich your garden beds with compost if you have it. Start a compost pile if you haven't already!
  • Put down weed control barriers in your garden beds and cover with mulch.
  • Repair hardscpae features. Refill joints between paver stones, sand any splinters on decks, and use a pressure washer to remove algae from patios or decks. Repair and/or paint fences.

Before you know it, your yard will be ready for summer entertainment!

It's definitely that time again when our yards need some sprucing up again!  With nice weather, it's a good way to be active and enjoy the outdoors.

Good morning Wayne and Jean Marie Zuhl. Some very good suggestions for this time of year. You never get a second chance at a great first impression.

My lawn is pretty green right now.  I hope it stays that way after the 90 degree days we are going to have next week.

Hi Wayne and Jean -  I have had two weekends of tearing out scraggly shrubs and replacing them.  I am done until Mother's Day when I will plant annuals.
