Vacation Middleman Now Charging 10% Fee

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Carousel Realty of Dyer County Tn 248435000

In case you haven't noticed yet, VRBO is now charging renters a 10% surcharge if they pay them for the rental that they book. I own 2 beachfront condos in Destin Florida and have both of them advertised on VRBO. That company is asking all of us owners to let them collect the rent and in exchange for a 10% fee. I am getting so many potential renters tell me they are glad I don't let vrbo collect my rents.

Now VRBO is letting all the owners know that upon renewal. each of us will not only pay the yearly fee(one of mine is $499 and the other is $799) but also a sliding scale percentage on each traveler we book.

I called VRBO today and the lady tried to lead me to believe the reason for the extra fees is because the travelers are requesting that they do that as added protection for them. That is plain and simple bull hockey.

VRBO was recently bought out by a larger company and this is pure and simple a way to finance the acquisition. For all you Realtors out there remember all the middle men who have been trying to muscle into our business(zillow, trulia, homegain,, etc).

Thanks for letting me get this out in the open to the public. If you are looking for a great vacation on the beach in beautiful Destin,Florida then leave out the greedy middleman and book directly with me.

Hi Mike Frazier ,  I agree with you.  VRBO is getting a bit greedy.

Hey, Mike!  Didn't realize that VRBO had been bought.  Sounds like the new guys are follow the likes of the lizards like Zillow and Trulia to horn in on real estate revenue they don't really earn.
