On April 24th, Crested Butte’s 4th Annual Pole Pedal Paddle event will take place- winding from Mt. Crested Butte to Gunnison. Beginning in Mountaineer Square, competitors will take off uphill at the Crested Butte Mountain Resort via Keystone to the Paradise Bowl, to the top of the Paradise Lift and then to Windy Point where they can rip off their skins and transition to downhill. Skiing back down Keystone, Upper Park and the Warming House Hill, they will race to the bike transition area back at Mountaineer Square. Once in the saddle,  racers will pedal down Gothic Road to Crested Butte and then ride south on Highway 135 to the North Bridge river access point. The total bike portion is about 27 miles from the starting point in Mt. Crested Butte. Next, riders will jump in kayaks, canoes, duckies, rafts or on to stand up paddle boards for the final leg. For the last 4 and a half miles of the race, participants will paddle downstream in their water craft of choice on the Gunnison River to the finish line at the Gunnison Whitewater Park. Men and women can compete as individuals in “race” or “fun” categories or as a team – relay style. Crested Butte’s 4th Annual Pole Pedal Paddle Early Registration is open until April 17th. If you miss early registration, you can register online until the day before the race.
