Is it me...or does it seem a tad bit dry in the central Nebraska farm land? The farmers are working the fields preparing for planting and many have started dropping seed into the ground this week.
Some are going to wait until next week to plant. Might be a good idea in my opinion...it is only mid-April and the chances of a hard frost are near 100% if you look at historical data.
We had a couple of nice snows earlier but a lot of that moisture was lost due to wind either blowing snow off the fields or the high winds drying the fields last week. Thunderstorm over Nebraska! (A little artistic modifying)
Subsoil moisture is still okay in most areas...however drought monitor conditions are saying we are creeping into the yellows and reds on the dryness charts.
The forecast for the next few days is rain...rain...and more rain. In a perfect world, I would want us to get just enough rain for every area. That's not too much to ask for is it?
Eastern Nebraska received some rain a few weeks ago when it missed most of Central Nebraska.
A slow inch and a half would be awesome...a fast 3 or 4 inches would not!!
It started out foggy and cloudy in a lot Nebraska today and the rains are to begin later tonight and tomorrow.
Today I am going to use one of my daily prayers and ask for rain...feel free to share:
Dear Lord,
Yesterday I prayed for a day with calm winds and warm sunshine as my friends laid their Mother to rest. What a glorious, calm day you shared with them and all of us that were there to say goodbye for now.
Today, I pray to you to send your life nurturing Rains to central Nebraska. Abundant enough to quench the thirst of our land…abundant enough to allow a great crop to be planted…and yet not so much that the Rains are wasted or squandered.
Please know that the stewards of the land are here to serve you and the people of the world and they will share the fruits of their hard work and labor.
I pray that as the rains cross our paths that all farmers, travelers, and other people and animals will be protected from any harm.
In Jesus name I pray… Amen!
How the above picture looked when I took it north of Kearney, NE!
