REAL ESTATE IS NOT FOR GUPPIES

Reblogger Susan Jacobsen
Real Estate Agent with The Alliance Group Realty 82984

I LOVE this post by Richie! I couldn't have possibly have said it any better. Along with what Richie is saying, when I first began my real estate career, I was bound and determined NOT to be someone that folks ran away from. Hence, I developed the 'grocery cart (or buggy as we say in the South)' test. If I was so horrendously aggressive that if someone say me in the grocery store they flew down the aisle the other way, I would know that I totally needed to calm down!

I am soooo proud to say that I absolutely do not ever have anyone heading the other way - in fact, often when I'm in the check out lane (yes, I wear proudly my Realtor name badge), people stop me and we end up holding up the line because they love to chat.

When I first got licensed back in the 70's, the first thing I noticed out there in the sea of Real Estate was all the sharks swimming around in a frenzy feed. It intimidated me and caused me to choose carefully where I wanted to start my Real Estate career. Today, I have a second or third skin and dine on shark meat. But, I still don't like the fast paced and sometimes arrogant world of random Real Estate agents

FRENZY FEED

Just like there are many different sharks in the sea, so there are many type of Real Estate agents. All have eating teeth, but some accomplish their missions without gobbling, snapping or biting at someone else to do so. This is what happens when you get nothing but money driven people all in one place. All out....feeding frenzy for some takes place...

HUNGER DRIVEN

To the Real Estate sharks, chum (shark bait) is sort of like the commission or listing potentials to make a buck. When this blood money ( lol ) is thrown into the water to attract fish (opportunity), the chum will do it every time. Chum can also be a referral or opportunity as well. I believe there is enough for all but some want to eat more than others thus the "frenzy". I get it!

GREED BY ANY OTHER NAME

Everyone sees the agents going at too. Some principals are moved to want to cut commissions believing that is one way to handle reducing the outgo or "agent food" while others accept the conduct for what it is. It is interesting to note that many see it as pure, raw greed. There is no mistaking the behavior either

GOT CHARACTER?

It's the big money that does it. We are talking thousands of dollars to tens of thousands and higher than that depending on the property values involved. Don't get me wrong here. I believe that an agent who does the work deserves the pay period. But some need to get a hold of themselves character wise

NO HEART JUST MONEY

There are some money focused folks that forget about the customer service aspects and they come across clearly as being in it for the money and nothing else. Even that is tolerable providing all get what is agreed to. It's the attitudes that need some tweaking. Consider also there is a lot more going on too

LOT GOING ON

I personally enjoy getting to know all the different players when we all come together. They change from deal to deal. What makes it even more exciting for me, even intriguing, is that I have played many of the roles involved. This helps me to relate to others in a special way

BEEN THERE

I have purchased homes and hired an agent to help me. I have paid commissions. I have sold homes too. I have loaned money out, done escrows, appraisals and property management and meeting others who are just getting started or up and running causes me to fondly remember my start-up too.

RESULTS plus SERVICE

On seasoned principals and clients, I go for customer service. That's what people who have money or have been there and done that not only want but look for and appreciate too. I saw a scene in the move called "The Devil and Daniel Webster" that makes a good point here...

PILES of MONEY

It showed a money lender counting & recounting his money at the end of the day over & over. No memories of the people involved, how he got it & other circumstances at work. NO. Just money flowing through his hands & him touching it, worshiping it and having it. Here was the catch

 THAT'S THE DEAL

He made a deal with the devil for the money. The devil went strictly by the rules agreed to. No joy, satisfaction, peace, or closure. Just money & more money until your time is up. I have worked for people who do this blatantly, out in the open. The more wealth they have or can have, the more abrupt and rude too

WHERE LIES THE REASON?

If you take a step back, its really not the large amounts of money when you take a real good look. It is what comes out of a person's insides, hiding in there having its way and wanting more and not being able to contain themselves. It happens to anyone who comes into instant fame and fortune too

HEADS-UP says the GENERAL

Marcus Aurelius, a famous Roman General, who was very successful in all his campaigns and liked as well as he was feared became aware of the human nature, the dark side and he took steps to counter it. When he went out in public, he got accolades, praise and even a type of worship from all his successes

YOU ARE ONLY A MAN

He hired someone to walk by his side and repeat steadily, all during the shouting and honoring the following; You are only a man. Repeated over and over. This was so it wouldn't go to his head and then turn into a monster that couldn't be controlled. He used this to offset the pride & ego. It worked for him

MY FIRST NICKEL?

When the pride and the ego is removed from any circumstances or even mitigated, other things come into play and become part of the reward or return besides the money alone. I have no intimate distinct memory about the money I had as a kid, but boy oh boy do I remember spending it and the details too

MAKE MORE THAN MONEY

Real Estate is land and improvements. Without people, it remains dirt, wood and rocks. The moon is Real Estate. So is Mars. But no people. So what if you gained all the riches but had no intimate people contact to make it mean something? Hand full of nothing in the end. Real Estate is for Real...very real

Hi Susan Jacobsen ,  Good for you.  There's nothing wrong with talking to the public.  Just act normal and while you wear your name and profession, they will take time to read it whether you mention it or not.  If interested, they will pursue you.
