West Roxbury, home to a 19th century experimental, utopian community frequented by such notable writers as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry David Thoreau. Today, West Roxbury is known for its civic activism and youth programming. Its tree lined streets and mostly single-family homes give this city neighborhood a suburban feel. Centre Street anchors the neighborhood's business district, which consists of restaurants, banks, and shops. Residents flock to Millennium Park, a former landfill that has been converted into 100 acres of trails, ball fields, and picnic areas.

West Roxbury today is still filled with families who are actively involved in their very diverse community. West Roxbury does not carry the costs of other neighborhoods like Beacon Hill, Back Bay, South End or Chestnut Hill so in that regard it is affordable for first time home buyers.  Many of Boston's police and fire department members live in and love this community because of it's family like atmosphere.

28 LaSell Street will go on the market in the next day or so. This is a fantastic home at a value addedprice.  3 bedrooms, a detached garage, nice yard, hardwood floors in a great neighborhood.  Getting to and from anywhere in the city or beyond is easy from this location near the VFW Parkway.  Buses and the T can whisk you downtown in minutes.  Living in West Roxbury does not feel like living in the city because of it's tree lined streets and rich history of community and educational activism.

Wikipedia shares The neighborhood was home to an experimental transcendentalist Utopian community called Brook Farm, which attracted notable figures including Margaret Fuller and Nathaniel Hawthorne, whose 1852 novel The Blithedale Romance, is based on his stay there.[1].
