New Rock Bed Project in Katy TX

Today I have been back to putting a new rock garden on the side of our right hand side of our driveway. We have been ruining the grass on the sides of the driveway every spring when the ground is very soft. Our driveway is too narrow for the sizes of the cars who have to fit here. Backing down the driveway sometimes finds the car in the grass. We try not to park on the street unless its very early in the morning after our new car smacked back in February in front of our home.

I was out of ideas of how to keep this area presentable without mud and tire tracks. Looking closely you can see mud and tire tracks still showing on the driveway concrete. If anyone got some ideas I am all ears..

I ran out of the decorative rocks and it is not completed yet. I used a black tarp material as a liner which is suppose to prevent weeds and grass from growing.

That's a really long driveway, Robert!  I have a longer than usual driveway, but it is quite short in comparison to your's.

Bob I would hire a cement guy and widen the driveway so you do not drive over the grass and put mud on the driveway:))))Endre

Bob,

I admore your idea, and I am in agreemwith Endre Barath, Jr. .  A pro will cement it all in place so that the rains, and driving over them will not wash the rocks away.  Another idea is brick pavers.  A

I say buy a bigger home with a larger driveway, Bob!

(Though the brick pavers is a good idea as well.)

Bob, we see this a lot around here too, and either rocks or bricks are used.   Will certainly help from ruining the grass!

I like the idea of brick pavers too. Although, what you're doing will also help. Good for you for tackling the project. D

Bob, looks like you are doing a great job. If this doesn't work I would then do what Endre Barath, Jr. suggested.

Endre Barath, Jr. - Thanks for the suggestion as it is appreciated. I did consider this but there are a few issues. We would need to increase the driveway from the sidewalk in front of our home  all the way to the garage. There is a bed with a Crepe Myrtle planted in it which is huge now behind where I took the rock bed pictures. . This tree would have to be moved professionally and this is also some big bucks. I am unsure if a tree company could get its truck down the driveway in a position to do the removal.  I would have to hire an artitect to draw a plan for the driveway and get the HOA to approve. No plan no approval from them. I would also need to modify the sprinkler system as it runs along the edge of the existing diveway. I had major work dome on this system last fall. Big bucks here. The rock bed does not require HOA approval as beds are not a permanent change. I know this is TMI..

Bob, my friend based on your comment clearly the rock project is the only viable or should I say least cumbersome alternative/ approach.... I know how that goes.... one dripping faucet became a major bathroom remodel.... I also know about tree removal we just had one done, Arborist, Tree removal guys, Tree stump removal guy and now a necessary landscape remodel... all because.....Endre

Bob, what a great and practical project you have been working on.  I just helped one of my daughters run a buried downspout drain tile 50 feet to the back of her property and rocked it in with about a 1/2 ton of stone.
