"I'm proud to be an American...

Real Estate Sales Representative with Vision Realty Centers

where at least I know I'm free."  One of the best songs every written.

I'm thankful on this last Sunday of April to be an American by citizenship, Albanian by nationality, and a Christian by faith.  My family moved here 38 years ago, from former Jugoslavia, in the mountains of Montenegro, near the city of Tuzi.  They came to the United States to give their children a better place to live.  And living better we are.  Today, I do the same for my children.  Do what we can to provide and make a better life for our children.  This is a parents job.

May all your hopes and dreams be filled with God's leading.  May the month of May be a great month in this great land we live.

Lu, I love that song.  I was recently at an event where a band sang that song live and there were a lot of veterans at two tables.  The veterans stood up for the song and I, feeling patriotic, stood up too as did a number of other people and we all sang along.  I was amazed at the crowd of 20 somethings that just sat and looked critical.  I was very upset by that.  Why don't they understand that they are free because of the many great veterans in that room?  If I were one of the vets, I would have been very insulted that the young crowd didn't stand up.

Congratulations on your 38 years in this wonderful country!

I love that song!  The Army always plays that song at functions/ceremonies!  Each and every time I hear it, it moves me to tears.  I'm a PROUD ARMY SPOUSE OF AN ACTIVE DUTY SOLDIER!!!!!  I am thankful every day that he is here on American soil!!

LU, I went to an Airshow during the first Gulf War and they played that as an F-15 shot straight up in to the Air.  It as one of those memories I will never forget.  My ancestors came over a long, long time ago and I have always been so thankful that they got on that big ship.  We are so BLESSED in this nation and we so often take it for granted.

Thanks for the best wishes Lu. Belonging to several groups at once is very American. We all have our nationality, we all have our race, and we all have our religious affiliation. Despite those differences, we are united as Americans.

Lu - I agree, it'll be 38 years for me in October:-) having come here on my birthday, I always have 2 things to celebrate. I think I'm going to stop celebrating my birthday and just celebrate the number of years I've been in America (this gives me an extra 8 years:-)

Marchel - if you haven't already, you need to go visit the land of your ancestors. if airshows and memories have such a strong impact on you, then a visit for you is a must! btw, I saw a similar air show, those F-15's are incredible.
