Sellers Who Leave the Country Need Special Considerations

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

In my Sacramento real estate practice as a listing agent specialist, I seem to work with a lot of home sellers who are leaving California. Many of them head north to Oregon or Washington, but some are also moving to the great state of Texas. It's rare that I work with a person who is moving out of the country, but every so often it happens.

My most recent seller was an elderly fellow recovering from an accident. He fell down and broke his leg. He could not walk and the paramedics had to chop down his side garage door just to get into the house. For these reasons and more, I found myself more involved in his move out of the country than usual, but it's OK because along the way I discovered a few helpful hints. And he really appreciated the extra attention. He felt like my only client, he said.

You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: When a Home Seller Plans to Move Out of the USA.

Hi Elizabeth.  I represented a buyer where the seller was in Sweden.  Crazy issues came up but we got it through.

Hi Elizabeth -- while they are similar, I find each transaction brings up something just a bit different.   That often involves the level of handholding that may be needed in order to make sure the transaction proceeds as planned.

Is it customary for sellers in Sacramento to take their refrigerators with them?

Chris Ann Cleland Yes, it is customary for sellers in Sacramento to take the refrigerator. They also take the washer and dryer. When you figure a brand new 'frig runs about $2,000, and the SubZero prices are insane, yeah, they go.

Real estate is truly local.  In Bristow, VA, if you tried to take your refrigerator you would be thought a loon.  Washers and dryers are what we see leave with the seller 50% of the time.
