Arthur Schopenhauer
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy.
Arthur was born in Danzig, Germany back in 1788 to Heinrich and Johanna. His family was quite wealthy, he devoted his early years wholly to studies at the Gotha gymnasium. He later studied at the University of Gottingen. His focus was on metaphysics and psychology.
His works are so varied I’ll just cut right to the chase. He wrote “The World as Will and Representation”. He also wrote about aesthetics, morality and psychology. One of his writings is: the ultimate aim of all love affairs....is more important than all other aims in man’s life. One of his notes has me considering this as what I found to be profound: This actual world of what is knowable, in which we are and which is in us, remains both the material and the limit of our consideration. He did have some influence on some other that would follow him, maybe you’ve heard of them let’s see Leo Tolstoy, Friedrich Nietzsche, Jorge Luis Borges and Ludwig Wittgenstein.
I can’t let it go without noting some of his works. On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason, On Vision and Colors, The Art of Being Right, On the Will in Nature, On the Freedom of the Will, On the Basis of Morality. However, there are still two of his quotes that stand out to me. What do you think? All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed, Second, it is violently opposed, Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. And the last one is Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see
