What’s the last book you read?
This is a favorite day of mine because books and reading, in general, can bring so much into your life. And, of course, the issue of copyright or rather the infringement of it, should be top of mind when we are writing our posts.
World Book and Copyright Day was first celebrated in 1995 and was created by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) to celebrate books and their authors.
The date, April 23rd, was chosen because it is the day the Shakespeare, Cervantes, and de la Vega died.
Why books?
-Can you remember reading Shakespeare and finally understanding it?
-Were you taken back to what it’s like to be a child when you read the first Harry Potter book? (oh come on.. Don’t be an intellectual snob. If you haven’t read the Potter series because you’re off reading the Iliad, it’s time to broaden your horizons)
-Did you ever think that Bill Bryson would make it through the Appalachian Trail in A Walk in the Woods?
As to the topic of copyright law, I leave that to our own Lenn Harley. You can find her posts on copyright and if you’re wise, you’ll read and bookmark them.
How can you celebrate?
Pick up a book and read it!
Grab a book and read it to a child you know.
Share a book you’ve read with a friend.
So tell us...what book that you’ve read would you like to share with us?
