I could easily write this post about my beautiful, talented and brilliant wife, but that should be saved for Valentine’s day. The Romance of Real Estate today is about homes. Finding, choosing, growing together and creating memories.
I have a simple rule for my buyers; a home is too expensive of an investment of both money and life to settle. I often will ask, “do you love it?” Beside costing hundreds of thousands of dollars the average owner will be in their home 7 to 10 years or more. Many will celebrate major milestones, marriages, births, first time events, celebrations and memories which will forever be tied to that home.
Sometimes love happens at first site. You know it when you walk in the door, the feeling of familiarity, comfort and warmth. You can imagine your life unfolding within these walls and you just need to make it yours.
Sometimes, one party to the purchase feels that way, but the other is okay, but not in “love”. There are two possibilities here, love grows or never appears. For a buyer to move forward there has to be at least one in love and the other with a willingness to let love grow. I often say it takes two yeses but only one no when there are 2 buyers involved.
I recently had some buyers where we had found several great homes, written strong offers but were out bid. That is heartbreaking, especially when they both felt strongly about the homes. When we finally got under contract, one was in love but the other was just okay. Heartbreak is difficult to overcome and it’s natural to hold back on the emotions when this happens a time or two. After being under contract 
and doing the inspection, the home was found to be in great shape and he felt free to relax and get excited about the home and he let me know he was more than okay, he was in love too.
Finding love can be tough. The perfect home we start out envisioning, may not appear (at least within a reasonable budget) but finding love with a solid, reliable and enjoyable home is still possible. Whether it’s love at first site or love that grows, allow the possibility for love when finding your next home and you’ll make the type of investment you can live with for years to come.
