Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson from Madison Wisconsin as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. Nelson was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in recognition of his work.

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Senator/Governor Nelson was one of Wisconsin's best public servants. He committed to many of what I believe were the better side of many issues, and he did so without regard for how they would affect his career. That is a quality lacking in many of today's politicians.

Please don't take this as disagreeing with Nelson, but out of respect for residents of other planets, I'm goin' with Happy Holidays.
