Most consumers do not get it. Every puppy bought in a pet store comes from a puppy mill where dogs are isolated abused and stay 4 to eight in a small cage without any food or water and live only to breed. Their water comes from a rabit bottle, the food is basic and often withheld and no medical care is ever provided. Don't believe anything you are told there. These dogs are often ill and their parents never know a human touch.

If you are looking for a dog, go to Petfinder.com and find a shelter or rescue group. Almost any breed is available and these are dogs that if not adopted perish. It's all about caring for the animals that need us the most. Don't shop, Adopt.

Sheila, My daughter adopted her dog, "Chase" from a shelter. He is a black lab mix, is smart and loving but not too thrilled with the new baby. He is 12 years old now and he often growls at my grandson when he crawls up to him. Jamie says Chase is a grumpy old man.

Sheila excellent post there is no reason to buy when Adoption is an Option, thousands of pets get put down because there is no space in the shelters ...too many people do not get it that there are very few No Kill Shelters around the country. Endre

Your point is well taken. I know a couple whose Vet knew of their love for a certain breed and confiscated a dog from a breeding mill. She is so awesome now, and healthy!

I really had no idea how many people give up dogs they paid for with papers until I was a dog owner. You of course know we have rescues. Two dogs, 4 cats. and we have a lab mix and a great dane mix and I really could care less who their parents were. I care that they are loved and cared for in our our home. I fully believe temperment comes from how they are treated.
