Any guesses how the neighborhood got it's name? If you were thinking that it was once the home to Butchers and poultry preparers you'd be right! The majority were of German and Jewish decent. The neighborhood predates the civil war and is made up of architecturally diverse brick rowhomes that were constructed in the 1850s.

Butchers Hill is located between Pratt Street and Fayette Street and goes between the 100 and 200 blocks of S. Patterson Park Avenue and Chapel Street. It is bordered by Patterson Park on the east. Patterson Park is an essential part of the community. Residents take care of the park and contribute many volunteer hours to it as well as area schools.

Butchers Hill is in close proximity to upper Fells Point, and the employment center of Johns Hopkins Hospital. A portion of the neighborhood is also part of an historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In the past Butchers Hill was a more properous community than nearby fells Point which explains why the row homes are typically larger.
The community also enjoys the benefits of the Butcher's hill association. They organize events such as as the spring flea market, house tours, trash can distribution, spring cleanup and dumpster. Overall this his is a wonderful place to call home.
