A recent Gallup Poll revealed that most Americans now consider real estate to be the best, long-term investment that they can make. This is a substantial change from 2011 when 34 percent believed gold to be the best investment, with real estate accounting for just 19 percent. Stocks and mutual funds, gold, savings accounts, and bonds all rated quite low in comparison. This comes as the average home price jumped from $259,300 in 2011 to $348,900 in early 2016.
